(Read my review here.) I went into Bridge of Clay with the same expectations, but was sadly disappointed.īridge of Clay is a very haphazard novel. The Book Thief is a fantastic work of fiction, and I loved it. The author of this book is the same person who wrote The Book Thief. When their father comes back to ask the boys’ help in building a bridge, the only one willing to go help him is Clay. The book revolves mostly around the life and emotional travails experienced by the fourth brother, Clay. The story is narrated by the oldest brother, Matthew, as he sits at an old typewriter that belonged to his grandmother. They are coming to terms with their father abandoning them, after their mother’s death. ![]() Bridge of Clay written by Markus Zusak follows the lives of five Dunbar boys – brothers who have been exposed to a tremendous amount of grief at a young age. ![]()
